The surgical treatment of problems of the ears, nose, and throat is the focus of otolaryngology, or ENT surgery. An otolaryngologist is a doctor who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of problems and diseases of the ears, nose, throat, and other tissues of the neck and face.
ENT surgery can assist to correct injuries or flaws in these areas that cause issues like discomfort, infections, and breathing difficulties. Some children, for example, require ENT surgery to treat recurrent ear infections. Tumors may require ENT surgery to be removed (abnormal growths). The operation may be conducted in a doctor’s office, an outpatient facility, or a hospital, depending on the treatment.
